In order to focus in on high power you first have to start out with the scanning lens and focus in with the coarse adjustment knob, then after that works you make your way to the low power lens also focusing with the coarse adjustment knob and then lastly you can change the lens to the high power lens where here you can only use the fine adjustment knob. When looking through a microscope you may want to make a wet slide in order to study tiny organisms. In order to make a wet and stain a wet slide first you place down a tiny bit of the object you want to study like tiny fibers from a cotton ball. Then drop 1 to 2 drops of water and place the cover slide 45 degrees on the slide and drop down. If the cover slide wont stay that is because your fibers are to big. Then once you are done looking at that without dye you can dye your white fiber by placing a paper towel on one side of the slide and a few drops of Methylene blue on the other side and eventually the paper towel will absorb the water and the dye will go through to the slide. By doing this lab i have learned the proper way to use a microscope and feel like i am better prepared to use a microscope to discover new organisms. The most useful information i learned from was the focusing in on organisms and i know that will defiantly be something i can keep growing knowledge on.
